BECOME A STRETCH THERAPIST

Our Courses

  • Level 1

In level 1 you will learn a specific 'choreography' of stretches that can be performed in approximately 1 hour. The stretches cover the entire body focusing on the major joints, muscle groups and fascial lines. The choreography is designed to help you digest a large amount of information as easily as possible, as the stretches are organised in a logical flow. Those with more experience in manual therapy will likely grasp 'the moves' more quickly, allowing them to layer in more nuance. Those who are new to manual therapy can focus on the basics of position and direction; achieving a good level of proficiency by the end of the course.

Level 1 has a heavy focus on therapist positioning as the efficacy of the stretch is impacted most by the position of the therapist. Being very physical work, teaching you to be efficient with your own body is paramount.

Learning is hands-on. Through the experience of working with your peers, you will learn how to guide each other to a place of deep relaxation and trust. You will be ‘on the stretch table’ for approximately half the time. Experiencing the work as the receiver is integral to understanding how to deliver assisted stretch to others.

You’ll receive a printed manual detailing every stretch.

    Certification

Following attendance of all class hours and the final assessment, students receive a certificate of completion. The assessment is completed during the course hours. The course registered with the CPD and worth 21 points/hours.

  • Level 2

In Level 1 we used specific choreography to anchor learning. Now, we break out of the mould, explore new material and refine your practice.

Refinement of headline concepts from Level 1 - Therapist positioning and body mechanics, traction, flow.

Client position - how does it impact the stretch and how to leverage it for better results.

Breathing function - how to coach breathing for improved results.

New stretches for all the major fascial lines/muscle groups.

    Deeper investigation of common issues.

You’ll receive a manual detailing every new stretch and going deeper into the concepts that underpin Stretch Therapy.

  • Refreshers / Workshops

Refreshers and workshops are offered sporadically throughout the year both online and in person.

Refine the material and concepts from Level 1 and 2. For refreshers, we'll collect your questions and prioritise learning based on student requests. Learning will be hands-on with students practicing on teachers and peers. Workshops will be offered with specific focuses.

FAQ

  • No. The majority of our participants come with a background/qualification in movement education or physical therapy, however it is not a requirement. The stretches are taught in a safe and controlled manner, meaning that those with less experience are able to begin their manual therapy journey with us.

A diverse group of class participants makes for an excellent learning environment; those with more experience benefit from seeing the work with fresh eyes. There are many subtle details that those with more experience can pick up, while those with less experience stay focused on the basics of body position and direction of movement.

  • Upon completion of the course you will have a sequence of moves that can be used to provide a 1 hour stretch session. The sequence takes the client through a gentle warm up and into deeper stretches that cover the full body from head to toe.

Your background and how quickly you ‘pick up’ the material will be the main determinant of how much practice you will need following the course before feeling ready to begin offering the service. Most alumni say they did 15-20 hours of practice on friends and family before offering stretches. Please note this is dependent on your individual experience and confidence.

Depending on your background and service offerings you can also ‘break apart’ the sequence we teach and offer it in conjunction with other modalities.

To safely offer assisted stretching to clients you must be properly insured. Assisted Stretch can be umbrellaed under most professional qualifications. Massage therapists, personal trainers, dance teachers, yoga instructors can instruct their insurer to add ‘assisted stretching’ as one of the services they perform.

  • Our course is certified with the CPD. It is worth 21 hours/21 points.

  • 10 Copper Row. SE1 2LH

Our studio is located 10 minutes walk from London Bridge Station.

  • We don’t have any official recommendations/affiliations but if you’re looking to economise we suggest looking in Aldgate which is about 30 min walk from the studio. It's a safe neighbourhood, but it lacks the 'quaint' factor that tends to draw the tourists and up the price. We are only 10 minutes walk from London Bridge station, so choosing a place with direct service to London Bridge is another good option.

  • We don't have any dedicated parking, but this is the lot right under our building:

  • We provide everything you need.

Bring layers as you’ll warm up when stretching others and cool down when you’re being stretched.

Bring clean indoor shoes that provide you with good grip on the floor.

Bring a change of kit. You may get quite sweaty and dry clothes for the afternoon will feel much better!

There are cafes all around us for coffee and food. You’re welcome to bring food. We have a fridge and kettle onsite, but no microwave.
